Zorlu Energy Group successfully completed the erection of the first wind turbine in Pakistan on Dec 3, 2008 with a capacity of 1,2 MW in Jamphir, Sindh Province.
Zorlu Energy Group’s project is the first wind farm to be built in Pakistan. After the completion of first phase by Jan 2009, the project will provide electricity to 60 thousand households.
The plant will reach a capacity of 50 MW in the second phase with plans to increase the capacity up to 300 MW. Zorlu Energy Group will then be providing electricity comparable to the generation capacity of the Kanupp nuclear plant in Pakistan. Totally green, totally renewable totally indigenous resource.
Zorlu Energy signed an agreement with the Pakistani Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) in 2006 to establish a wind farm in Pakistan. According to the signed agreement, Zorlu Energy will build a wind farm in this region and generate electricity for a period of 20 years. In this project, as in Zorlu Energy's other investments, Zorlu Industrial is constructing the wind farm while Zorlu O&M will be responsible for their operation and maintenance.
