  • 1953

    The foundations of Zorlu Holding are laid in Denizli Babadağ.

    Haji Mehmet Zorlu lays the foundations of Zorlu Holding in 1953 by establishing Zorlu Mensucat in his hometown Babadağ, Denizli, a textile hub. The first store in Denizli is opened in 1957 and the first order from outside Denizli is received in 1959.

  • 1960

    The second store opens in Trabzon.

  • 1966

    Contract manufacturing begins in Istanbul. TAÇ is born.

  • 1976

    Korteks factory is established in Bursa.

  • 1984

    Korteks realizes the first export of tulle curtains.

    Zorlu Textile Marketing was established in Trabzon and Denizli. Curtain exports to Germany, USA, South Africa, Japan and Singapore starts.

  • 1988

    Foundations of Korteks are laid as Europe’s largest spinning mill.

    The factory in Bursa beings manufacturing in 1990.

  • 1989

    Zorlu Embroidery Factory is established in Lüleburgaz.

  • 1990

    Zorlu Holding PLC is founded.

  • 1993

    Zorlu Energy Electricity Production PLC is established.

  • 1994

    Vestel, an electronics and white goods manufacturer in Turkey, joins the group.

  • 1997

    • Zorlu Linen, the largest manufacturing facility for home textiles in Europe and the Middle East, is founded starts producing TAÇ quilt covers.
    • Denizbank is founded.
    • Zorlu Grand Hotel beings its operations in Trabzon.
  • 1998

    The first company outside Turkey is founded.

    Vestel USA is founded, manufacturing TV sets for the US market. Bel Air, a 250-year-old French brand is acquired as a stepping stone to enter the European curtain market.

    • Mehmet Zorlu Education, Health, Culture and Solidarity Foundation is established.
    • The first store under the “Linens Home Beauty Center” concept opened on Bağdat Avenue in Istanbul.
  • 2000

    • Zorlu Energy shares go public.
    • The first export to China takes place.
    • Vestel’s Hong Kong office is founded.
  • 2001

    Linens’ first store outside Turkey is opened in Ukraine in 2001.

    • Vestel Shanghai and Zorlu UK offices are established.
    • Zorlu Linen becomes the largest facility producing cotton home textiles in Europe and the third largest in the world.

    • Zorlu Group celebrates its 50th anniversary.
    • One of the largest factories of Europe, Vestel City, is founded.
  • 2004

    • Jules Verne joins the group.
    • Taç begins retail operations.
  • 2005

    • Vestel Defence Industries PLC conducts the first flight demonstration of its mini unmanned aerial vehicle EFE.
    • Zorlu Energy Group acquires a 25-percent share in Dorad Energy Ltd. in Israel, and lays the foundations of Moscow’s first private power plant.
  • 2006

    • Zorlu Property Group is founded.
    • A 20-year power production agreement is signed with the Pakistani Alternative Energy Development Board to build a wind farm in Pakistan.
    • Korteks starts manufacturing technical and functional threads.
  • 2007

    • The highway tender was won for a record price and the excavation works of Zorlu Center project started. The project was awarded the "Best Planned Project” in the Cityscape Dubai Architectural Awards Program.
    • The United Nations Global Compact is signed.
    • Meta Nickel Cobalt Mining Industry and Trade PLC joins the Group.

    The first sodium borohydride fuel pellet application was performed.

  • 2009

    • The number of stores outside Turkey carrying the TAÇ brand reaches 100.
    • The first LED television is designed.
  • 2010

    Vestel manufactures the 100 millionth TV in its history.

  • 2011

    • The first 3D TV and the first smart TV are manufactured by Vestel.
    • Vestel steps into the LED lighting sector.
    • Zorlu Energy publishes the first sustainability report in the energy sector.
  • 2012

    • Zorlu Faktoring is established.
    • Within the framework of the Fatih Project, the first stages of smart board and tablet auctions were won.

    • Zorlu Center opens.
    • Vestel becomes the first electronic and white goods company of the world taking place in the Mega Factories documentary series on National Geographic Channel.
    • Zorlu Energy Group opens Kızıldere II Geothermal Power Plant, the biggest geothermal power plant of Turkey with an installed capacity of 80 MW.

    • Vestel manufactures and introduces Turkey's first smartphone, Venus.
    • Meta Nickel Cobalt Mining Industry and Trade PLC, the largest investment in its field in Turkey, starts with pilot production.

    • Attending to the 51st Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey organized under the sponsorship of Vestel, the cyclists pass through the Vestel City and break grounds with the first cycling tour in the world passing through a factory.
    • Levent 199 receives the LEED Gold certificate.
    • Zorlu Holding institutionalizes its support for empowering the women in society, business life, and economic life by signing the United Nations Women's Empowerment Principles.
    • Vestel and Zorlu Energy attends as a strategic business partner to the digital economy and energy meetings of B20 events, the business world expansion of the G20 Summit.
    • Venus V3, the new model of Turkey's first locally manufactured and designed smartphone Venus, is put on the market.
    • Zorlu Center launches the first light festival of Turkey.
  • 2016

    • The total installed capacity of energy investments in Israel, which Zorlu Energy Group is a partner of, reaches to 1.015 MW in 2016, and becomes capable of meeting 7 percent of Israel's energy need for 25 years.
    • Zorlu Energy starts the electricity distribution and sales of the Osmangazi region, serving more than 1.5 million subscribers.
    • Turkey's first nickel-cobalt mining processing factory Meta Nickel Cobalt made its first exports.
    • Zorlu Solar Energy Procurement and Trading Co. was established.
    • Zorlu Energy became the sole authorized distributor for First Solar's sales in 26 countries for five years.
    • İmece, the social innovation platform with Zorlu Holding's founding partnership, is launched.
    • Mehmet Zorlu Foundation’s "21. Century Competencies "training program begins.
    • Discovery Channel's most watched "How To Do It" program shows Vestel City to explain how LED TV is produced.
    • The first interactive network platform about digitization and digital convergence in Turkey, was implemented with the cooperation of Zorlu PSM.

    • MIX, the first Turkey originated festival fitting different types of music into two days, was held for the first time at Zorlu PSM.

    • With an investment of 70 million euros, the foundation of the Vestel washing machine and dryer plant was laid.
    • Zorlu Energy has signed a mutual goodwill agreement with the Palestinian electricity distribution company Jerusalem Electricity Distribution Company (JDECO) for the establishment and operation of solar power plants in Palestine.
    • Implemented in in Manisa, Gordes with an investment of $ 600 million, Turkey's first nickel-cobalt processing plant Meta is officialy opened. New automation investments worth 120 million euros for Smart Phone and Tablet factories at Vestel City are realized.
    • Zorlu Center received the Honor Award in the ICSC VIVA Best of Best competition.
    • Zorlu Center began to serve electric taxis – a first shopping malls in Turkey.

    • The pride of Turkey: Turkey's largest, one of the biggest in the world, Kızıldere 3 geothermal power plant started its operations.
    • Zorlu Energy has been the first energy company to calculate and audit water footprint in Turkey (Water footprint certification ISO 14046) Green Loan (First in Turkey).
    • ZES fast charging station (Turkey's fastest).
    • The Barrier-Free Life at Zorlu Project which was realized in partnership with the Guide Dogs Association and aimed to make Zorlu Center an accessible and socializable destination for the disabled, won the Social Support Award of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC).
